about this weekend…

Sometimes I wonder why the distinct art of why and what is within most of us.  As a young kid, my mom tells me I was a Picasso of why and what.  I fathom her musings only through the mirrored artistry of my own kids.  They were why and what Rembrandts.

Why is there dust?  What does God’s mom make Him eat?  Why does the TV need to rest?  What can make my sister scream louder?  Why are spoons and forks necessary?   What can cause a drastic sports revolution that would return the beloved Peyton Manning to the blessed Indianapolis Colts and stop this ridiculous onslaught of Bronco nation?   But I selfishly digress…

The why and what tapestries we design as toddlers seem only to flourish with age.  The questions get more complex in tandem with our circumstances.  Why did she break up with me?  What can I EVER do to please my parents?  Why is Algebra a thing?

We do it so easily.  We get deeper as the years fly by.  Why can’t I seem to hold my marriage together?  What will I do if the biopsy comes back malignant?  Interestingly, our fully developed why and what skills can eventually and exclusively be turned towards God.   You think God may have hard wired us with strong why and what tendencies to graciously cause us to turn His way?  Hmmm.

Then WHY don’t more people turn to Jesus, and WHAT is the reason our questions seldom take us to the WHO?

On Sunday, we’re diving in I Kings 17:17-24.  Think you could ever use your why and what questions to see better the Who?  How would you surrender your why and what mad skillz, in order to gain a more abundant life with the Who?  Are you following this?  Bring a friend and your questions this weekend.

After all, we’re really good at this.  We’ve all been practicing a lifetime of why and what.

Blessings,
