God’s Will

God’s Will

Is this God’s will?  I’m sure you’ve either asked or thought this universal question.

I wonder if our daughter, Morgan, asked this when we said her Saturday night curfew was 10:00 p.m.  What if Morgan rebelled and cried, “How could a ten o’clock curfew be the will of God?  Show me where a ten o’clock curfew is in the Bible!”    What would you say as a parent?

I would say, “Yep, this is the will of God.  By God’s design for the family, and by a scriptural mandate to parents — a mother and father have responsibility for their children.  See you at 9:55!”  Let’s consider this scenario (first painted to me by Pastor Randy Pope):  What if I told Morgan her curfew was 2:00 a.m. and she came home at 1:50 a.m.  Would Morgan be within the will of God?   Yep.  But it probably wouldn’t be within the wisdom of God.

Do you see how perhaps a better question to ask is, “What is the wisdom of God on this matter?”

On Sunday, we’re continuing to unpack The Game-Changer vision at Cumberland.  Many of you know the Why and the What of our bold vision for moving into the future.  Is this God’s will?  Do we have a “thus saith the Lord” kind of deal?  Would it, perhaps, be better to ask, “Does this decision reflect the wisdom of God?”

What I will attempt to do on Sunday is to justify our vision decision to GO.  When is the last time you tried to justify or explain a decision made?  Ever wonder how Walmart can defend selling fried Twinkies?  Amazing.  But I digress…

Our text on Sunday will be I Thessalonians 2:7-12.  This represents the heart of Cumberland Community Church and how the Gospel has affected us.  With our heart established, I will show you the process by which we landed on a Game-Changer vision.  Then…I’m going to conclude Sunday by asking if you are in.  How has the Gospel affected you?  Will you buy into our vision individually and corporately with CCC?  Will you pray?  For one hour, will you pray?

I’m excited to teach and gather with you at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.  I’m still pumped from Dr. Perkins’ visit last week!  Bring a friend on Sunday.  It could be a Game-Changer.

Blessings
