Have you ever read a section of scripture for years and years, and thought you knew it pretty well? If someone were to ask you about it, you could talk at length about the details and the plot twists and characters.
Yea, well that’s how I felt about this section of scripture too. But it turns out that I didn’t know it all that well. Well, I knew the “story”, but not much about the subtleties and, perhaps, the motivation of the characters.
This week we are going to dive into the life and story of Elijah, the Old Testament superhero who is talked about a lot in the New Testament. We’ll dive into his life in the desert. We’ll learn about Elijah’s nemesis King Ahab and Jezebel. And most importantly, we’ll learn what gave Elijah just enough faith to take on King Ahab.
We’ll certainly get to know the story as we may have remembered it, but we’ll dive into much of what was happening behind the scenes.
This Sunday launches us into our summer teaching series on Elijah. For the next several weeks, we’ll be picking though the life of this Old Testament superhero of the faith.
