about this weekend… (FIA)

Somebody important once told me how 5th grade would be wasted if it weren’t for a few knee scrapes and pesky girl cooties.  I hated that challenge.  Honestly, I thought cruising through my final year of elementary school would give me necessary breathing space in preparation for the hell of junior high.  In the end and in the grand scheme of things, knee scabs and girlie troubles were but minor issues compared to successfully conquering the rigors of 5th grade.

May I challenge you a bit?  Please don’t cruise through or neglect our F.I.A. Sunday coming up this weekend.  It would be easy to do, wouldn’t it?  One could quite readily rationalize, “It’s coming to the end of summer, I need to get ready for another season of school and work — and nobody will miss me anyways.  It’s just another F.I.A.  I’ll be at the next one.  I promise.”

BTW… CNN may be here to report on such counter-cultural, upside-down, unusual, Kingdom stuff like our FIA.  CNN has also alerted other news media of our efforts, and other reporters could be here as well.  WHAT IF media exposure allowed the large gospel of Jesus restoring all things to be seen here at little ‘ole CCC?  Potentially, the Kingdom of Jesus will be seen on our campus and around the world!  Imagine that.  What if the CNN cameras were rolling, but nobody was on our campus?  (I realize that’s a bit extreme, but you get the point…) We are a church of 850-1,000 these days, and my challenge is for all of us to be at this FIA.  Wouldn’t THAT be something for CNN to see?

Last night our monthly prayer gathering was well attended as we lifted up our community, schools (especially Argyle), parents, kids, and our Faith In Action initiative this Sunday.  We poured our hearts out in hopes God would pour His love and Spirit out on the crowd of people who will be here on Sunday.

We have over 225 people signed up for specific tasks.  If you haven’t signed up, we can still connect you to specific tasks.  We also need people to just hang out and love on people.  We need families to sit down on a curb with other families and share a meal.  We need folks to smile and encourage messy families with squirmy kids during our very messy-but-great worship service.  We need people to pass out liberal high-fives.  We hope CCC married couples will model strong, traditional marriages by just being here.  How hard IS this challenge?  Seems a bit like small knee scrapes and messy people troubles.  They are exactly the kind of mustard seed divine appointments Jesus can use to transform lives and change a community. PLEASE catch this vision!  You can serve in specific areas, but being here is THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE TO THIS FIA.  There will be games, rides, haircuts, filled backpacks, music, worship, free flip-flops, and messiness beyond anything this church has ever seen.  We absolutely need you here by 10 a.m.!!

Will you come and be a living Jesus to people who are searching?  Will you help us fill 300 more backpacks?  We are currently 300 short of our goal.  We need a bunch more donated before Sunday.  Click here for supply lists.  We need backpacks for every grade ASAP!

I appreciate and love you.  Thanks for allowing me to challenge you.  Mom did the same thing to me back in the 5th grade, and look at me now!!!  🙂

See you on Sunday.

Blessings,
