about this weekend…

I can’t wait for next week.  I’m going to finally get the sleep my fatigued body needs.  Coffee can keep my slumber-deprived soul jacked up for only so long until laying down beside still waters becomes a forced and not just necessary reality.  It’s those ding dang Olympics.  I just can’t get enough of them.  I just can’t turn Bob Costas off.   Good things these games roll around only once every four years.

I’m not a huge discus fan.  Gymnastics don’t stoke my fires.  Platform diving can even be somewhat flat for me.  It’s the stories within the Olympics that make each sport a spectacle to behold and a worthy exchange for sleep.

Gabby, Lochte, Michael, Sarah, Usain, Aby, Jessica, Lolo… what are some of the names you’ve picked up on because the inspiration has actually picked you?  There’s poverty, sacrifice, pain, injuries, endurance, heartbreak, and resiliency that we seldom see the other three “off” years.  What it takes to have a mere chance of gold really is unbelievable and challenging.

On Sunday we begin a four-week, DNA series called “Sticky Faith.”  This special string of messages will help us, and our kids, have lasting, vital, authentic faith.  You in?

All the stats point to modeling being THE best way to bolster our faith, and continue the faith journey of our kids.  So why is there little to none going on in most churches?   Why do we rely on programs more than story telling and modeling?  Those are great questions, and we’ll begin answering this Sunday.

What if your prayer life had as much intentionality as the gold medal winning marathon runner?  Think anyone would be interested?  Think you would cause someone to sit up and maybe even lose sleep?  What if your marriage modeled your relationship to Jesus?  Think anyone would be inspired enough to have their own fires stoked?  What if your Jesus centric life was a torch younger generations would clamor and demand to be passed down to them?

This Sunday we’re diving into such an Olympic appropriate text.  Take an advanced look at Philippians 3:10-21.  The timing of this could not have been better!  OMGoodness.  Can we begin eliminating barriers to our faith modeling and raising up generations fully regenerated and changing the world for Jesus?

I’m anxious to be back teaching.  I’ll be passing the torch a bit to our intern, Joel Groff, in the 8:30 service.  Joel and I have worked together on this same message, and he’ll be teaching.  Joel has served well at CCC this summer, and is about to return to Point University (formerly Atlanta Christian College).  Come see the fire of a younger generation that HAS sticky faith.  I’ll be teaching in the 10:30 service.

Bring a Friend.  School’s back in session, and here we go!!!

Blessings,
