about this weekend 2.1.13

Super Bowl fever is starting to kick in… kind of.  An estimated $12.3 billion will be spent when all is said and done.  That’s equal to the Jamaican GDP!  If you’re planning on doing some grocery shopping, I would go ASAP.  Publix & Krogers will be slammed with people buying the four food groups of the NFL:  pizza rolls, salsa, chips, & dip.

Do you wonder what the big hype is really about?  Some 179 million are expected to tune into the big game   And yet, allegedly, I’m not supposed to even write _uper _owl without proper copyright release.  Crazy.  What IS going on here?  Of course, we all know the main focus will be solidly on the thirty-second, $4 million commercials.  Other than that, the Harbowl just doesn’t seem to be stirring like Super Bowls past.  No doubt 49er or Raven fans take exception.  Most, however, are predicting 53% of water cooler discussions come Monday morning will be all about the new VW and Bud Light spots.

Somehow someway, the football game seems lost and out of focus.

Sometimes, somehow, and someway, the church gets out of focus too.  Programs, buildings, and western success often drown out simple concepts of loving, feeding, connecting, and motivating people.  Sometimes, Jesus is hard to uncover.  His mission is often a forgotten thought from churches past.  Come Monday morning, most water cooler discussions boast or bemoan church attendance, but rarely does Jesus get mentioned.  When this happens, something is out of focus.

This Sunday we’ll be continuing to focus the vision God has given CCC and His Church.  Specifically, this Sunday, we’re going to be unveiling Biblical initiatives God is challenging us with as the part of His EPIC Kingdom called Cumberland.  The call, challenge, and vision is a big one.

Henry Blackaby boldly suggests, “The kind of assignments God gives are always God-sized. They are always beyond what people can do, because He wants to demonstrate His nature, His strength, His provision, and His kindness to His people and to a watching world. This is the only way the world will come to know Him.”

I believe you will see exactly where you fit into the God-sized vision of Cumberland this Sunday.  I believe God is stirring our community in deep, Acts 2 ways.  I’m excited to be teaching this Sunday.  It’s a great time to be a part of CCC, and live out an EPIC life as a disciple of Jesus.

Are you in?  I hope and pray, at the very least, you’ll come Sunday to listen… and then decide.

On this Super Bowl, Super Vision, EPIC Sunday, my favorite band will also be leading worship!  It will be great to have the young hearts of Wire Method lead our music and worship.  Yes… you know I’m proud!  Check out their new video by clicking here.

See you on Sunday.  Bring a friend!

Blessings,
