a glimpse towards Sunday 7.26.13
My son likes to go busking. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that is. It’s not naked street dancing. It IS street musicianship. Michael likes to play his guitar whenever and wherever, but especially on a street corner where people can walk by and fling dollar bills into his guitar case.
I told Sherry how our son is never going to want to really work. Every time he goes busking, he rakes in about $40 for an hour of shredding his guitar. Not bad for an eleven-year-old.
There is a certain novelty to a young, curly-headed blonde kid playing a guitar out in public. Most people walk by and ask Michael, “How old are you?” It’s simply an unlikely scenario. To show you what I’m talking about, you can click here to watch a little video of Michael busking in Florida this summer. (he’s fully clothed!)
Blind Bart was an unlikely candidate in scripture. We’re taking an in depth look at this guy on Sunday. He’s like Zacchaeus, Mary Magdalene, and a Roman Centurion. They were all unlikely candidates for the Kingdom of Jesus to flow through, but it did. They were all a part of the fellowship of the unlikely. They simply wanted to see Jesus.
While others wanted power and seats of status, these unlikely Bible heroes wanted only mercy and spiritual eyesight. They had a humility, hunger, and unlikely connection to Jesus. You can too.
How unlikely are you? What fellowship do you have with the Kingdom unlikely?
On Sunday, we’ll get to know Blind Bart and explore Mark 10:46-52. We’ll challenge and encourage and follow Jesus.
Nobody will be throwing dollar bills into your guitar case, but you may hear powerful words from Jesus. I hope you’ll come on Sunday… 9 or 11 a.m. I’m anxious to gather with you. I’m excited to teach. Bring an unlikely friend or two…
Our back to school F.I.A. (Faith In Action) is August 4th. What unlikely heroes from Cumberland will rise up to give the Kingdom away to unlikely people of our community? We are expecting over 1,000 unlikely people to come through our doors. We need unlikely heroes. Please plan on being with us and serving. Take a look at this video by clicking here. Blessings,
(p.s. – Our good friends at Smyrna First Baptist Church are having a prayer walk this Sunday at 2 p.m. for the new Smyrna Elementary School. You are welcome to join!)
