VICTORY CAN LEAD TO SIN

I am excited to bring the Word on this coming Sunday, July 15th out of Joshua chapter 7 at CCC”s Smyrna campus. (Now that we have a Douglasville campus, I had to make that distinction.) Oh, wait–you didn’t know we are launching a new site this fall in D’ville?! Read about it HERE.

After several months of prayer and Kingdom conversations, Cumberland Community Church is stepping out in faith to launch its first of many new campuses. This church-planting vision will establish healthy, multi-ethnic, gospel-centered, difference-making, Jesus-lifting, life-giving churches throughout metro Atlanta, beginning in Douglas and Cobb counties.

I’ve been given the honor to provide prayerful leadership as CCC’s Director of Church Planting and as campus pastor to our new Douglasville location. I am beyond humbled, and I am so excited! My wife, Sara, and I have been married and in full-time ministry for 32 years. We have planted churches in Charlotte, NC and Jackson, MS. We just moved to Douglasville in June and are pumped to serve with such a stellar team at Cumberland. Many of you know that Alan and I were roommates in college and have been friends ever since. We absolutely love and respect the entire Scott family.

Presently our new campus is in the “Pre-Launch Phase” this summer, so we are meeting most Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for “Vision and Training” gatherings at Heirway Christian Academy.  Also, we are hosting a DOUGLASVILLE INFORMATION LUNCHEON this Sunday right after the second service for those of you who are interested in hearing more about this new campus and how you can help. So last Sunday, Alan reminded us of the victorious battle of Jericho after the people of Israel prayed, obeyed, marched, and shouted out their battle cry. God gave them their first, glorious victory in the newly entered Promised Land. But did you know that victory can lead to sin? Yep! This Sunday we will look at Joshua 7, which reveals the landmines that can follow a victory. How many times have you come from a spiritual, mountain-top experience with the Lord only to be immediately attacked by the devil? You are not alone.

As we believe in God for victory individually and collectively as a church, we must remain vigilant, sober-minded, and battle-ready. Our enemy is relentless, and he looks for every opportunity to tempt us to fear, doubt, and sin. So as we continue to believe in and pray for victory at Smyrna’s city hall next Monday, let’s not get too caught up in the celebration to follow. We will give God all of the glory! We will be alert to the devil’s schemes, especially after a win.

We would love for you to join some of us on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 a.m. to walk and pray around the Smyrna’s city hall to wrap up our seven-day Jericho prayer march. Also, we will host a powerful prayer gathering of hundreds on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at the church while we await the decision from the city council. You don’t want to miss it!
