a glimpse towards Sunday 3.27.15
An internet humorist named David asks: Did you ever wonder if your legs bent the other way, what a chair would look like? Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? Did you ever wonder? Did you ever wonder about a cow laughing so hard, milk would come out her nose? Did you ever wonder if man evolved from monkeys and apes, why there are still monkey’s and apes? I’m certain this is not transformative stuff to ponder, but it is fun.
Did you ever wonder how all those Old Testament saints were saved before Jesus actually walked the earth? What’s your theology on this one? On Sunday, we’re gonna unravel the mystery. Answering this may or may not be transformative nor appealing for you to bring a guest to Cumberland.
But… what if gathered to answer this one: Did you ever wonder how to get happy?
We’re gonna tackle this one too. This one will be transformative. Guaranteed.
Are we headed towards our first prosperity gospel sermon about a God’s whose sole purpose is to make us happy? Nope. It’s deeper. Better. It’s more than just a room without a roof.
At this point, the question for you and your friends to pose is this: Did you ever wonder… if you’re happy? We sure do chase a lot of things to hunt happiness. Do you know what works? Have you discovered what doesn’t?
Self-help magazines must not be delivering what they promised. Did you ever wonder why the self-help section at Barnes and Noble keeps growing if it was really working? What doing or plan or action items will finally unlock the keys to happiness?
What if it was about doing nothing? Did you ever wonder if being happy was maybe more about just being instead of more doing?
This Sunday, we’ll be back in our Ragamuffin study of Galatians. Chapter 3… verses 6-9 will be our guiding text. We’ll take an interesting look at Abraham. The Bible said he was very happy, and we can be like him. Intrigued yet? Did you ever wonder if Abraham was a Christian? We’re gonna tackle that one on Sunday too.
Did you ever wonder why phonetic isn’t spelled the way it sounds? Alright… I’m done. Almost. Did you ever wonder what God would do as we come together on the weekends? Come Sunday and wonder no more. It’s gonna be good.
I’m looking forward to teaching this weekend as we gather on Sunday… 9 & 11 a.m.
Blessings,
