COMING ATTRACTIONS
My two high school kids play in a top-notch orchestra called The Hillgrove Mastery Orchestra. They’re really good. The pieces they play are quite complicated and engaging. What a bunch of high schoolers can do is nothing short of amazing.
At concerts, I like what their orchestra teacher, Mr. Doke, does before most songs. He explains what you’re about to hear.
Some, perhaps, would complain about the need to explain a song before it’s played. If it needs some ‘esplainin’… is it really THAT good of a song? Generally, with most music that may be a fair rule. But when you’re dealing with dead, dark, Russian composers whose musical angst was commentary against an oppressive government — I need some ‘esplainin’!
It’s amazing what Mr. Doke’s explanation does for the performance of the song. You can hear the story as your soaking in each note and crescendo. I like knowing what’s coming before it comes.
Have you ever asked, “What’s going to happen at church on Sunday” before Sunday?
Maybe you’ve invited someone to come to church with you because more people are open to attending church during Christmas than any other holiday. With someone saying yes to your invitation, now you want to know what’s going down before it goes down.
If this is you, you’re in luck!
Here’s what we’ll be unpacking clearly, practically, and with a big fat choir: The Gospel.
Our text on Sunday will be the Schulz-Peanuts-Linus traditional Christmas story from Luke 2. There’s joy in the story. There are several responses of joy. AND… we’ll be giving away tons of Chick-Fil-A as well. Intrigued?
This is one you’ll WANT to bring your friends to. Who doesn’t want to hear about how to have a deep joy that goes beyond a mere circumstantial happiness? I’m excited to teach at 9 & 11 a.m. Hope to see you all there!
Blessings & Merry Christmas!
