SPINNING WHEEL

Sometimes it feels like my life is made up of a bunch of spinning wheels. The more hurried I am, the more the wheels seem to spin. Blood, Sweat, and Tears once sang about spinning wheels. “What goes up must come down. Spinnin’ wheel got to go ’round. Talkin’ ’bout your troubles, it’s a cryin’ sin. Ride a painted pony, let the spinnin’ wheel spin.”

Does your life ever feel like an exhausted ride on a merry-go-round where the spinnin’ wheel just keeps on spinning? I want to get off the painted pony but so often just don’t know how.

On Monday night, we were watching “The Green Book” with some family and friends. The story of Don “Doc” Shirley is a fascinating one—although some say the movie portrayal was not an entirely accurate one.

The problem I had with the movie was the spinning wheel. We streamed the movie on Amazon. Apparently, the film had a capacity that didn’t fit our internet’s streaming ability. Every 10-15 minutes the screen would go black, and we’d be staring at a very frustrating spinning wheel.

Every time we’d resign ourselves to quitting the movie, the film would restart. A two-hour movie took over three hours to watch.

Spinning wheel.

Sometimes when I’m trying to do too much on my laptop, I get a spinning wheel of death. The very technology that is supposed to make my life easier just keeps me buffering, waiting, and spinning. My soul’s capacity just doesn’t seem to fit the world’s ever-increasing, 5G, warp speed that is demanded.

Ever wonder what all this spinning does to our souls? And what does a spinning, restless, frustrated soul do to our marriages, kids, churches, and walk with Jesus?

On Sunday, we’ll begin what I believe is a DNA-shaping series for Cumberland. The series is called “REST.” With our world moving at an ever-increasing pace, how will we make sure our souls don’t disconnect from our very Source of life?

On Sunday, we’ll explore John 1:1-5. Our key to rest is this: Get to zero.

I hope you’ll come and bring with you some exhausted friends. There is a Way through this. There is an Answer… but we have to get to zero to find our Hero.

I’m excited to begin this trek with you. I’m eager to teach and gather with y’all at 9:00 & 11:00 a.m.
Blessings!
